Preventative System Maintenance
Address and clean up problems before they happen.
The Oil Change system maintenance program is used to perform an RPCS system audit and detect potential problems before they occur. Below is a brief overview of the different components of the Oil Change. Reports are generated with each piece of the Oil Change so that a user can reference back to the processes that need to follow.
System Information Review
- Logons and what release they are on, and when they were last accessed. Unused logons take up space and should be deleted
- Library accounts. Only keep one release back on your system, older releases take up space
- Client access logons, which account they are associated with and what release they are on
- License information for the number of Collector licenses and database licenses; includes expiration dates
- Miscellaneous (MISC) files on the system that haven’t been used in the last 30 days, and how much space they use
- Total disk space check
- Other miscellaneous accounts and information on the system
Printer Information
- Printer Setups.
- Form queues, how many HOLD jobs, and how much space the hold jobs are using.
Files Nearing 2 Gigs
- The system will have errors if there is a file greater than 2 gigabytes in size; causes corruption and loss of data
List Information
- Saved lists work great, most people don't delete their saved lists. This report shows 10 saved lists by user and file size (in bytes)
Find NULL Items
- Displays if there are any "empty" records stored on the system
Find Old PL Program
- Shows which programs are source code back-ups, one-time programs, or non-compiled items
- Reviews programs with client to see if any can be cleaned up and removed from PRIVLIB
Miscellaneous Files
- Dialer Checks, if a dialer is installed
- Transactional Services, if Transactional Services are used
Taking preventive measures is almost always preferred over having to fix system problems. An Oil Change identifies the major causes of system problems and helps you address them in advance.
If you would like to perform an Oil Change on your system, please contact your Client Support Representative or send an to support. You will be assisted in the initial set up and running of the program. Once complete, you will be trained on how to interpret the reports.
From the time of your initial Oil Change you will be able to run the process as often as you feel necessary. We recommend that you run an Oil Change at least twice a year or every 15,000 accounts, whichever occurs first. As always, RevQ is here to support you though every step of the process.
